People suffer as damaged Khwas-Kalakot, Khwas-Kotranka roads wait for repair
11/16/2015 11:31:58 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
RAJOURI, Nov 16: Hard to believe but it is true that thousands of inhabitants of Khwas tehsil in Rajouri district cover 20-50 kilometers on feet to catch bus from Budhal for Rajouri-Poonch districts and from Lathi for Kalakote-Jammu areas.
This 'courtesy' is the result of negligent approach of the district administration as well as the state government which has failed to repair the Khwas-Kalakote and Khwas-Kotranka roads which were damaged due to floods about five months back.
It is worthwhile to mention here that in the month of September when contacted by the Early Times, the District Development Commissioner had said that he has instructed the authorities to expedite the work to open the roads so that the inhabitants of Khawas tehsil may not suffer any more.
But till today no efforts were made to make these roads available for passenger vehicles so that the people can get bus service from Khwas town instead from Budhal which is about 80 kilometer from Kotchalwal, 20 kilometer from Bhela, Gunda and 18 kilometer from Khwas town.
"On Sunday, Transport Minister along with other senior officers visited the Khwas tehsil headquarter and a special JBC machine was sent to make the Kotranka-Khwas road suitable for the movement of cars and other small four wheelers. The matter has been taken with the Minister who assured an early mitigation of our problems" said Shakeel Singh, political and social leader of Khwas.
He added not only this, due to damage to road more than ten thousnad inhabitants of the areas have not been provided CA&PD ration and kerosene oil for the last more than 2 months.
"Health care in the area is also negligible in the absence of shortage of staff including doctors and medicines. No lady doctor was posted at Khwas health centre for the last many years and 5-6 women die during pregnancy every year" said Saleem Khan Sarpanch.
