PDP trying to tame rebel MP through kin
Karra the rebel may spoil his Sali's political career
11/16/2015 11:45:05 PM
Early Times Report
Srinagar, Nov 16: In yet another bid to "tame" Member Parliament Tariq Hameed Karra, who has been openly criticizing his party-led Government, the PDP is planning to remove his sister-in-law Asiya Naqash from the MoS portfolio should he fail to shed the "rebellious attitude."
Highly placed sources said the coterie of at least three Cabinet Ministers from PDP who are "allergic" of Karra's presence in the party, have floated the thought that if Karra doesn't behave in accordance with the "needs of times" his sister in-law has no right to hold the MoS portfolio in the Government where BJP is the ally.
Sources said the idea to hit Asiya has gained momentum ahead of the government plans for the Cabinet reshuffle. MLA Hazratbal Asiya, is MoS for Health in the PDP-led coalition which took oath on March 1, 2015. Interestingly, the Health Ministry is headed by firebrand leader Chowdhary Lal Singh of BJP, the party which Karra has been spewing venom against.
The coterie is understood to have recently got their viewpoint conveyed through a PDP leader from south Kashmir to others in the party. "They (group of ministers) want to be silent themselves but want other party leaders to counter Karra through Asiya before the party high command who is taking regular feedback from the leaders," said a party insider, pleading anonymity.
Party insiders said it was Karra who personally introduced his wife and sister- in-law in the PDP a decade ago when both were elected as corporators for the Srinagar Municipal Corporation. However, in the last year Assembly elections, only Asiya was given mandate.
Sources said it was only because of being close relative of their "trusted party leader Karra" that Asiya was given the MoS portfolio. "Infact in March Karra wanted to Asiya be given be Cabinet berth but finally negotiations finalized on her being taken as the junior minister," explained the party insiders.
Sources said the coterie of ministers, all of whom are new to politics, had been tracking every development in Karra camp through "informers who happen to be middle rung government officials." "These officials were sent to Karra camp to pretend being his loyalists but their actual objective was to see what was cooking in his mind," the insiders said.
They said it was only because of the "internal information" which the "informer officials" fetched from the Karra camp that the coterie finally realized that the best was to use Asiya as cannon fodder.
While Karra has often been speaking against the coalition, many believe that it was the "coterie of ministers" which intrigued to distance him from the party high command.
"When Karra won the Parliament elections he was tactfully sent to Delhi while this new breed of immature politicians started getting closer to the party high command in decision making only to grab position of the veterans," the insiders said.
