Early Times Report
srinagar, Nov 16: Easing out the differences with the chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and coming closer to him, the PDP veteran and Parliament Member from north Kashmir Muzaffar Hussain Beigh is all set to occupy a vital post in the present regime.
The development may prove worrisome for the Education Minister Naeem Akhtar and his close aide Finance Minister who were considered as Mufti's two trusted lieutenants.
The duo besides holding vital portfolios in the dispensation also used to be privy to the vital decisions being taken vis-a-vis the modus operandi of the government.
Beigh, the old PDP man who was considered no less than Mufti's right hand man after the party formed the government in 2002 has at present, in open, castigated the approach of duo asking Mufti to be wary of 'birbals' and 'dream merchants'.
On June 29, this year, Beigh the Harvard-educated lawyer accused Finance Minister of showing false dreams to the people of the state. He said, "As former finance minister, I can tell you that we need extra funds as we lag behind in many socio-economic factors. I am not the kind of person, who will say I won't go to Delhi with a begging bowl. That is an unnecessary provocation and counter productive statement," he said.
On September 5, this year, Beigh launched a veiled attack against the Education minister Naeem Akhtar- accusing him of being the biggest hurdle in the implementation of a comprehensive education policy. "I want to tell you that the future of our youth is being destroyed and deliberate attempts are being made to make them suffer further," Beigh had said in a public function at SKICC here amid sobs.
Now, when Beigh is all set to return to state's political spectrum with the chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed at his back, the speculations have already started to galore about the fate of Akhtar and his friend. "Would the duo be dropped and sidelined is something that cannot be predicted at present. What is apparent is that Beigh would never reconcile with the duo," sources said.
The PDP leaders wishing anonymity told Early Times that the party offices across the state are these days abuzz with the talks over the simmering tensions between the Finance Minister and Beigh and later returning to dominate the scenes.
If sources are to be believed Beigh would be accorded a vital portfolio in Mufti's cabinet in the near future and that he is set to address media prior to that.
The party has also prioritized to make public the announcement that there are no differences between Beigh and the PDP and that the party is as united as it used to be in the past.
Interestingly, the chief minister already in open has termed Muzaffar Beigh a senior leader whose opinion and view point must be taken into merit.
What remains to be seen is who would be Mufti's trusted lieutenant in future when Beigh is making a startling comeback.
