Early Times Report

Jammu, Nov 16 : A Trekking Expedition to Roopkund comprising of one Officer, one Junior Commissioned Officer and ten soldiers of Crossed Sword Division was flagged in today at Pallanwala by the local Army authorities.
The enthusiastic soldiers completed trekking along the difficult and adventurous route of 226 Kilometers over a period of eleven days, from 02 Nov 15 to 13 Nov 15 along route Nautha-Dewal-Lohjang-Van-Bedni Bugyal and finally to Roopkund which is located at an altitude of 16500 ft in Uttarakhand.
Roopkund, also locally known as 'The Mystery Lake' is a high altitude glaciated lake located near the base of the two Himalayan peaks of Trishul (7120m) and Nande Ghunti (6310m) in the Garhwal District.
The place has attracted attention over the years because of the hundreds of human skeletons, which are found at its edge and are visible when the snow melts.
The expedition which was flagged in by the Brigadier Commander, inculcated the spirit of adventure and mental robustness of the troops as the route was through the snow clad mountains and at the same time provided a platform to interact and promulgate the message of peace and harmony among the masses en-route.
