JAMMU, Nov 24: Gatka is a Traditional South Asian form of combat-training in which wooden sticks are used for sparring matches. The Jammu & Kashmir Gatka Association affiliated with the Gatka Federation of India (Regd.) launched the first basic Training Camp at KC Sports Club Jammu on 21st November. The GFI is also registered with the World Gatka Federation, the Asian Gatka Federation and the School Games Federation of India. The five days' Camp was formally inaugurated by Ravinder Singh, President of the J&K Gatka Association and Manmeet Singh, Chairman of the Association. Ravinder Singh, General Secretary of the Association was also present at the launch. Nearly 100 students from different schools and colleges of Jammu started their training in the Camp under the supervision of Vinaydeep Singh, National Referee of Gatka and Amarjeet Singh, a Diploma holder in this indigenous form of martial arts. The first training session was held in the spacious multi-purpose hall of KC Sports Club. During Camp rigorous training had been given to all the students attending the Camp to prepare them for the State and National levels of Gatka competitions. |
