Early Times Report POONCH, Nov 24: Deputy Chairman of J&K Legislative Council, Jahangir Hussain Mir stressed on value education in schools to help effect a change in deteriorating educational standards and to bring about desirable change in society. Mir was speaking at the annual day function of Al-Awan National Academy at Mohra Bachai in Surankote. Highlighting the role of teachers in bringing desirable changes in society Mir said that it can only be achieved by a better education system and committed teachers. He said there was a time when schools were fewer, far off and had scarcity of staff and infrastructural facilities whereas now we have all sorts of facilities at our doorsteps but we are lacking behind in education, a paradox which needs to be addressed by all the stakeholders collectively, said the Deputy Chairman. The teachers and parents should understand their responsibilities and students should also develop interest in their education to move nation forward, he added. Mir said that the current education system in the state lacks focus on moral education which he said is the main obstacle to the efforts by the government to counter corruption and other social evils. He appreciated the efforts of the education Minister in improving education standards in the state. Member Legislative Assembly, Surankote, Ch Mohammad Akram in his addressed congratulated the school management for impressive cultural programme presented by the students. He said that apart from imparting modern education the school should also acquaint the students with the local languages and culture. "Value education should be an integral part of the our school curriculum to inject value education subtly throughout the syllabus", said Akram Others present on the occasion included M N Qureshi, Mohd Amin Qamar, Nazir Qureshi, Ch. Talib Hussain and Moulana Abdul Lateef Gorsi also spoke on the occasion. |
