Kishtwar, Nov 26: Warwan Valley Eco-Tourist Society (WVETS) in collaboration with NGO's KYAI and CAUSE conducted a week long public awareness programs in various villages in Warwan valley, and donated blankets to H/S Inshan, H/S Basmina, HSS Afti and H/S Margi for the students as the schools of the area lacks proper arrangements to cater dipping cold temperature due to onset of winter.
These NGOs also donated sports, recreational and stationary items to M/S Sukhnai, which is the last village of the state bordering Kargil District of Ladakh.
While talking to "Early Times", Zahoor Ahmed Wani, founder WVETS said WVETS is basically an idea to make Marwah and Warwan valley a better place to live in. "We will work in a multipronged strategy--- firstly we will engage in community mobilisation and public awareness programs so as to make people aware of their rights and also about the government run schemes which are either not implemented on ground or misused by the officials" said Zahoor Wani added that the NGO will act as a pressure group in Marwah Warwan to ensure the administrative efficiency and accountability. He said that the NGO will also try to act as a platform to bring non-governmental sector in these remote areas to make interventions in education, health and sanitation sector. "WVETS has been successful to tie up WWF-India, CHINAR International, Kashmir Youth Art Initiative (KYAI) and CAUSE NGO to work in Warwan" Said Zahoor Wani Dr Wiqar Bashir, co-founder KYAI said that "KYAI sees dire needs and an opportunity to assist in educational, hygiene and health awareness areas in this remote region" added that his organization in collaboration with WVETS will try to address these service delivery system gaps by minor interventions through whatever possible means and resources at hand for which village Sukhni could be selected as a pilot village for interventions in future as it needs the most in terms of major and minor assistance. He was surprised to tell that even writing chalks for the blackboards were not available in schools of Warwan.
Zubair Ahmed, representing CAUSE NGO said that the area is completely ignored by government and non-government sector added that the area needs immediate attention and basic necessities of life should be provided to the people.
"All the stakeholders of the government and non-government sector should come forward to help the area to develop" maintained Zubair Ahmed.
Sarpanch Basmina Ghulam Mohammad Bhat said that this is a first of its kind that NGOs have donated something to our schools. "It is a pleasure to see our youths are coming forward to work for the area at the time when successive governments turns blind eye towards their area and such public awareness programs will guide us to move in the right direction" said Sarpanch. Similar views were also expressed by Muzaffar Ahmed Rather from Mingli village of Warwan.
