Udhampur, Nov 27: Government Middle School (GMS) Rathian functioning for the last 30 years in the locality still is awaiting its due upgradation and much needed repairs but authorities have twiddled thumb to this much significant want of the locals and the students as well
According to locals, the two rooms of the age old school are totally damaged but department rarely had bothered to take care of despite repeated reminders from teachers and the eminent citizens.
Locals also lamented that this school here is functioning as middle school for the approximately for the last 30 years and yet has not been upgraded to High School reasons better known to authorities and the elected representatives from the constituency who failed to represent the case.
Some social activists and educationist of area said that as per rules the schools are upgrade when the strength of students in a Middle School touches to 100 mark and it becomes mandatory for the authorities to upgrade it to the High School level. "Meantime another rule says if there are no High Schools within a distance less than approximately 3km circumference then the school should be upgraded to high school, they said.
Stressing for the upgradation of above said school, they claimed that this school is suitable case under all rules of upgradation ( middle to high school) but department yet has failed to see the case of school which has catered needs of education in the area for last three decades. They however attributed the callous approach towards this case is only because of some influential private school owners.
Sham Singh resident from area told Early Times that Government Middle School (GMS) Rathian caters te needs of many villages like Marsooth, londana, Phangial, Ban, Kharooni etc and has strength over hundred students who have to travel ten kilometers daily to reach the nearest Government High School while girls students often are discouraged by parents just because of security concerns by the parenst who don't want girls to walk to far away High School.
A great resentment is brewing among locals against the education authorities who have failed to come upto their expectations despite repeated requests.
When contacted Chief Education Officer (CEO) Udhampur, Bishan Singh said that the matter of upgradation of this school has been taken up with the higher authorities and department is hopefull it will be redressed at appropriate time. |
