Early Times Report jammu, Jan 15: A police officer, posted in a district of Jammu region, is alleged to have charged a huge amount of money from an 'influential' local person to help him take possession of a piece of the prime State land worth crores. The influential person, who had got revenue papers of the State land prepared on his name, approached the police officer through a civil officer posted in the district, according to police sources. The police officer agreed to help the party to take possession of the land and he was given a 'huge' amount for this work, sources alleged. After the alleged deal was struck, the work on the land was started at night a few days back. However, when the locals came to know about it in the morning, they held a strong protest and even approached senior zonal police officers along with the revenue papers of the plot which showed that it was a State land, sources said. The senior police officers acted swiftly as a result of which the land was now under the possession of the State agencies, the sources added. Even as the influential person did not get the land, the police officer had not returned him the money. "The officer has assured to help in future," sources alleged. |
