BANIHAL, Jan 23: Banihal town comprising seven wards apparently has failed to maintain the due sanitation and cleanliness I majority of wards the Banihal Municipal Committee are not properly maintained and cleaned as the cleanliness drive is allegedly confined just to the main market in the town situated on Jammu Srinagar highway. Irked over unhealthy surroundings in various wards, the locals alleged that the municipal authorities are in deep slumber while the whole town is in shabby and unkempt conditions. The sweepers engaged by the municipal authorities are always seen busy in cleaning of main market of Banihal town ironically rest of the localities are often ignored by the concerned officials sitting at the helms of affairs. Local alleged that municipal wards besides Ward-7 Upper Rallu, Ward -5 Kharpora, Holana, and other adjoining areas are being ignored by the concerned authorities. "The garbage dumping on every dead corner and chocked drains welcome the visitors in these areas reasons better known to official of Municipal Committee, a resident alleged.
Locals also lamented if they were under the municipal area of the town why the authorities never depute a single sweeper for cleaning these areas. They also added that that drains are often seen chocked with garbage and people are usually seen trying their hands shyly to clear the clogged drains so that sewage water don't overflow and create problems to pedestrians. Locals of these wards appealed to concerned officials to wake up and get the various localities maintained properly before any outbreak of health hazards is reported. They further suggested if the municipal officials of Banihal are facing staff shortage than they should atleast depute their human sources to visit atleast for minimum two days in a week.
