JAMMU, Mar 13: Even as Supreme Court of India passed strict instructions to set up transit camps at district headquarters of Kathua and Samba enroute holy cave shrine of Shri Amarnath to ensure paramount safety of the pilgrims keeping in view of the inclement weather conditions, there is no headway in the completion of these sites after the lapse of four long years.
It is pertinent to mention here that after Supreme Court's ruling, a process of establishing Transit Camps was entrusted to J&K Tourism Department, which acquired a piece of land between two bridges of Sahar Khadd in Kathua with the active support of district administration and began construction work.
However, after the construction of boundary wall, a shed and toilets the remaining work of setting up other amenities got stuck for want of necessary funds.

In order to make a scoring point, the department claims that whatever infrastructure had been created was complied as per the instruction of the government but the proposal of constructing rooms, hall and other facilities has been put on the back burner for the reasons best known to the authorities.
Ironically, the Tourism Department is quite unconcerned and lax over the construction of Transit Camps enroute Shri Amarnath cave shrine with proper facilities despite Supreme Court's clear direction on this aspect with a view to ensure safety of the pilgrims. The Supreme Court passed on such stringent direction after a sudden increase in the number of heart attack deaths was noticed.
The Apex Body had ordered to establish permanent Transit Camps so as to make certain that the Amarnath pilgrimage route does not get choked with the pilgrims in the event of bad weather conditions while in such a situation the inward yatris could be accommodated at safer places so as to smoothen the pilgrimage. It is known fact that every year during the Amarnath yatra period, the climatic conditions remain an issue which creates hurdles in smooth conduct of the pilgrimage and in order to overcome such a scenario authorities make arrangements for the pilgrims to stay in make shift accommodations like government as well private schools and colleges while also at some government owned buildings.
