LMD books seven leading publishers, manufacturer of school books | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Apr 18: The sleuths from Legal Metrology Department (LMD) today conducted surprise raid on the book sellers to curb the menace of overcharging, cheating and unfair trade practices which are used to fleece the parents of school going children and accordingly booked them under the relevant provisions of the act. According to Dy Controller Legal Metrology Enforcement responding to large number of complaints on the restrictive trade practices adopted by the traders dealing with supply of school books and stationary items in connivance with school authorities. "Complaints of selling note books at exorbitant rates, smudging of MRP, forceful sale of unwanted stationary items, sale of school diaries and sale of sample books etc," spokesperson said. He said that the similar complaints were also brought to the notice of the CAPD Minister Choudhary Zulfkar Ali who immediately directed the officers to gear up their checking and to plug the grey areas to safe guard the interest of consumers. "Following directions the checking squad comprising of Inspector Pooja and Rohit Gupta conducted extensive checking in city area & served notices to seven publishers including M/S Small Wonders, M/s New Delhi, M/s Pearson india M/s Education Services Noida, M/s Navneet Education Ltd Ahmadabad, Distributor: M/s S R Enterprisees Bakshi Nagar, M/s Cambridge University Press Daryagang Delhi, M/s Ved Prakash & Sons Tanda Morh Jallandher, M/s Sahitya Sangam Stationery /book seller and Quality Manager ITC Chennai Distributor: M/s Malhotra Trading Company Nanak Nagar, he added. "The offenders were booked under the relevant provisions of the act for not declaring mandatory declarations required for the information of the students, smudging of price & overcharging", he said. |
