Migrants to get ration as per old scale
4/19/2016 12:13:22 AM

Early Times Report
Jammu, April 18: Taking cognizance of report by this paper the State Government has revoked its earlier order issued by Consumer Affairs Department regarding providing of ration to Kashmiri as well as Jammu migrants as per National Food Security Act.
This paper published series of stories exposing the Government decision and also there was a brewing resentment among the migrants against the same who refused to take ration for last two months on the basis of NFSA scale and demanded that they be provided ration as per old scale as the same is debited to Security Related Expenditures (SRE) borne by Government of India.
Bowing before the pressure the Government issued the orders for release of ration in favour of Kashmiri migrants as well as 1054 families of Jammu migrants as per old scale.
In this connection a letter was written by the Revenue and Relief Department to Department of Consumer Affairs here today asking it that the ration in favour of Kashmiri migrants and 1054 families of Jammu migrants be released as per old scale.
The letter said that the monthly financial assistance for providing ration to Kashmir migrants at par with prevailing scale has been received from Director CAPD, Jammu and the total financial implication per annum as worked out is 1759.33 lakh for Kashmiri migrants under relief category. However the financial implications to provide ration to 1054 families of Jammu migrants at the prevailing scale have not been worked out for which the Department has been intimated already. The letter also quoted the objections raised by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India which has intimated the State Government that the scheme for providing ration to the migrants is totally separate from NFSA and amount is being reimbursed under SRE. The MHA while questioning the implementation of NFSA said the Government of India has as such no objection if the Kashmiri migrants and Jammu migrants are provided ration as per prevailing scale instead of NFSA.
While referring the communication of Relief Commissioner Migrants it said that as per his reports the migrants have denied to take relief for last two months and there is apprehension of law and order situation as migrants are agitating for providing ration at the prevailing scale only.
Therefore the Relief and Revenue Department in view of the protest lodged by migrants and as per the recommendations of Union Home Ministry urged the Department of Consumer Affairs to issue nine kgs of rice, two kgs of ata and one kg of sugar per month per soul in case of Kashmiri migrants and nine kgs of Ata, two kgs of rice and one kg of sugar per soul per month in case of Jammu migrants.
