REASI, May 6: A team of Legal Metrology Department under the supervision of Assistant Controller Rajesh Heera conducted extensive checking of various business establishment especially Provisional Stores, Mutton & Chicken Shops, Karyana Stores, dry fruit shops, ration depots, petrol pumps, Sweet Shops and Veg/fruit sellers in Reasi, Katra, Pouni & Bhambla.
During the inspection the inspector Legal Metrology Reasi booked 13 traders for violation of various provisions of J&K Weights and Measures Act and Packages Commodities Rules. On pleading guilty, the cases were compounded on spot for Rs. 27800(Rupees Twenty seven thousand and Eight Hundred only) by the Assistant Controller Legal Metrology Reasi with the assurance that the offences will not be repeated in future, failing which their cases will be sent to the court of law for stringent action.
Besides this, the team directed all the traders to use only verified Weights and Measures for business transaction and ensure that all the package commodities sold to the consumers must bear the MRP, Packaged date, Net Content, Complete address and consumer care number.
The department has also warned the unscrupulous traders to desist from using unfair trade practices to cheat the innocent consumers and also appealed to the consumers to remain vigilant while purchasing the commodities. |
