Early Times Report

Jammu, May 6: Notwithstanding tall claims of state government about the transformation in the education sector, Degree College (GDC) Kilhotran of district Doda, is operating from tented accommodation, eight years since sanction was accorded for establishing a college here.
Rakesh Bhagat, a resident of Kilhotran informed Early Times that state government had sanctioned Degree College for Kilhotran in the year 2008 under Prime Minister's Reconstruction Plan (PMRP) with Arts and Environment Science streams.
"At that time College administration hired five rooms from Government Higher Secondary School Kilhotran to run the college but it was not sufficient because by each passing year the enrollment in the college increased and the additional classes had to be started by erecting tents.
They further said that in the year 2010 government had acquired 79 kanal and seven marla land for college but after lapse of five years the state administration and higher education department could not take possession of t land from the owner. "Jammu and Kashmir Project Construction Corporation (JKPCC) had prepared Detail project report of the two story building two years back but higher education department directed executing agency to prepare DPR of three story building", another resident Rayaz Ahmed said.
Rayaz further said that couple of month back Corporation, Managing Director visited the spot and said that the DPR of college complex was completed and forwarded for approval and construction work would be started once the approval is granted.
Criticizing BJP- PDP coalition government, Rayaz said that due to lack of accommodation, the college continued to offer only subjects in the arts stream and has failed to introduce science stream.
Repeated calls to Director Colleges, Prof T A Kawoos failed to evoke any response.
