Early Times Report Jammu, May 26: Gujjar Welfare Committee (GWC) alleged that Gujjar community is being discriminated by the state. Addressing a press conference here today, Mohd Ayub Choudhery Chairman GWC, Rakh Brotian, Vijaypur said that Gujjars of state are being neglected by the present coalition government headed Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti. "This has adversely affected over all development of Gujjars and their generation. Thus the Gujjars are being pushed back by one or the other way", he said, adding that about 500 families of Gujjars were living and meeting their needs for sustenance were uprooted from Abdullah Basti, Ramgarh, District Jammu (Now District Samba) under security reasons since the Abdullah Basti locates adjacent to LOC. "The then authorities while uprooting the Gujjars were assured that they will be settled suitably, accordingly were given open land situated at Rakh Brotian, Vijaypur in the year May, 1999. In this manner the Gujjars now comprising of more than 500 families with their domestic cattle are living a nomads life under open sky In self made shelter. About 25000 domestic catties /animals pave way for their sustenance", he said. Choudhery said that the previous Govts had assured the Gujjars for they will be suitably Rehabilitated at place Rakh Brotian,Vijay pur, Samba but, it was mere an eye wash to buy the time. |
