JU's dichotomy: Special treatment for politicians, commoners ignored | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, July 22: The dichotomy of University of Jammu stands exposed as politicians are getting special treatment, while commoners are being ignored. Sources told Early Times altering laid down rules the administration of University of Jammu is mulling to give affiliations two institutes belongs to a BJP Minister. "On July 15, 2016 a BJP Minister visited Vice Chancellor's secretariat for affiliation institutions, sources said, adding that to appease the Minister, the Vice Chancellor constituted committee of Campus Deans, and the committee turned-down request for affiliation in light of the Statute 12.1 of the statutes governing affiliation of College and other institutions. "However, Director, CDC who was also member of the committee had given his consent for affiliation of the institutions", sources said, adding that the Vice Chancellor would convene a special meeting in his chamber on July 23, in bid to pave way for affiliation of these institutions. "The meeting is likely to be held in VC’s chamber at 11 am", they claimed, adding that since BJP had distanced with VC over certain issues, the VC is trying to create pitch within Party by obliging one of its minister, and most probably affiliation would be given to these institutions. Earlier, affiliation to an institution was denied by the University on same ground. "The members of committee met on August 25, 2015 studied in detail the provisional permission issued by the Government of Jammu and Kashmir. Higher Education Department to establish a B.Ed College in favour of Shaheen Collage of Education, Ashar Banihal. The committee was also informed by the Assistant Registrar CDC, the Collage has applied for affiliation in the office of CDC on August 24, 2015", sources said, adding that the committee had turned down affiliation under rules. "After perusal of the document in light of the statute 12.1 of the statutes governing affiliation of colleges and other institutions", sources said and added that statute states that "an application for grant of affiliation of new college should reach the Director, CDC, by October 1 of proceeding the one in which it is proposed to hold admission and start the class work. "The committee unanimously resolved that at this point of the time the request of the college be not acceeded to as its amounts to blatant violation of the university statues. The committee resolved that the college be asked to approach the university, afresh for affiliation for next academic session after fulfilling the requisite formalities for statutes", the sources said. Ridiculing JU's dual yardstick, sources said that special treatment is being given to politicians, while commoners are being ignored. |
