JAMMU, July 24: Former interlocutor Radha Kumar is absolutely wrong when she asserts that "it is for the first time in the history of India that people cutting across party lines, religion, caste and creed have been impressing upon the Government of India to find a permanent solution to the Kashmir imbroglio.
"Almost all the Indian newspapers are flooded with the articles and news reports urging upon Narendra Mod-i led Government of India to get the Kashmir problem resolved. It is good for the 'tormented people of Kashmir' that here in India people have started realizing and understanding the authenticity and importance of Kashmir issue…When we compare current Kashmir unrest with 2010, we perceive and observe that people in India have become more sensitive about Kashmir issue and they eagerly want a resolution to this issue. In 2010, almost all the parliamentarians equivocally denounced Pakistan policy towards Kashmir and backed the action of security forces, but this time the situation is totally different. Barring few members of BJP, the parliamentarians are not ready to digest the 'propaganda' that people in Kashmir are hitting the roads on the behest of Pakistan," she said the other day in an interview.
She didn't stop just there. She further said: "India is left out with no option except resolving long pending Kashmir issue once for all. They (who? equivocally want an immediate solution to the problem and cutting across party lines, they are talking positive about Kashmir and their people. The wind has started changing its direction and the pro-Kashmir voices are being heard across country which is good for the trouble torn people of Kashmir…People here in India are hopeful that New Delhi will at least start a fruitful dialogue with people in Srinagar, including separatist leaders and later on take Pakistan on board. There is tremendous pressure on India. This time India can't afford to take it lightly. It has to take an initiative and it will take, that is for sure…Kashmir is not an economic problem but a political one".
Look at what she said to know if she, like her ilk, has any place in her scheme of things for the marginalized people of Jammu province and Ladakh and the answer would be a big NO. She, like her ilk, has no regards whatsoever for the neglected, humiliated and badly let down people of these two regions, which also house more than 1.5 million non-Muslim refugees all victims of religious fanaticism.
She said the people cutting across party, caste, religious and creed lines have urging the Modi Government to address the issues concerning what she called the "tormented people of Kashmir". Which people she referred to and which articles she hinted at? The people of Jammu and Ladakh did not ask the Modi Government to start a dialogue with Kashmiri Muslim leadership, Hurriyat leadership and Pakistan. Nor did any section of refugees in Jammu vouch for that. On the contrary, all the civil society groups and almost all non-BJP, non-NC and non-Congress groups condemned the Kashmir-centric approach of New Delhi. Besides, in Ladakh, the Congress demanded four-way split of J&K - grant of statehood to Jammu, grant of UT status to Ladakh and creation of homeland for Kashmiri Hindus - and organizations like the Panun Kashmir warned the authorities in New Delhi that any failure on their part to read the writing on the wall in Kashmir would create in the Valley Syria, Afghanistan and Pakistan-like situation and it was not acceptable to the nationalists in the state.
And why the way a half a dozen articles in the national press written by pro-separatists and pro-Pakistan can't decide the fate of the state and the country as a whole. It is disgusting that we have in India Radha and her ilk who call themselves Indian but bat for Pakistan, Kashmiri separatists and preach sinister views only to mint money. They are so callous and communal that they do not consider the minorities in J&K relevant. This approach will not do. They are simply provoking the nationalists in J&K by preaching sedition and asking the Modi government to retreat from Kashmir so that the seditious groups there could play their nefarious games in the Valley and expand the sphere of their cruel games beyond the Kashmir Valley. |
