Early Times Report

Rajouri, July 24: Astonishing it may sound, but the fact cursing the police department in district Rajouri is of serious nature as well as shameful.
It happened some two years ago , that over some trifle in the district an FIR was lodged in one of the police station in Rajouri district against some four to five people by a party that had alleged some misconduct by these people .
The police officials and the then SHO of the particular police post acted smartly and got the FIR registered against the four to five people in hush-hush manner without going into the nitty gritties of the offence committed by them.
Anyhow the case lingered on for nearly two years before the said culprits were summoned to the police post for hearing on the crime that the police officials found one person missing in the FIR to be present on the occasion.
The police team was sent to find out the missing man and to the grave astonishment of the police department , it was found that the man they were searching for had died some three to four years ago,
This sent the entire police in the Rajouri district to a tizzy as the nonchalance of the then SHO concerned of the police station had filed the FIR against a person who was already dead.
The complaining party too was summoned by the police in the police station to enquire about the gravity and nature of the offence committed by these persons from whom one was already dead in fact , but appeared as a culprit in the FIR lodged by them.
The complaining party too had no answer to the query while the police also came under a piquant situation as to how to react to the situation where a particular FIO No. had been registered against the dead man.
Sources close to this development in the police station Rajouri revealed that the complaining party some two years aho had some personnel indifference with the four to five people named in the FIR and have approached the then SHO to lodge an FIR against them.
" The police without going into the nature of the crime , offence and the people involved in the crime immediately found a heavy bribe offer from the complaining party took the money and lodged the FIR notwithstanding that a particular person in the crime did not even exist ," said the source .
Two years later, when the file was opened to settle the issue , police found itself caught on the wrong foot acknowledging that it had committed a blunder , just to gulp down the heavy bribe received from the other party.
People of the area have alleged that a case of criminal negligence and taking of bribe should e slapped against the then SHO, IO, and the munshi of the police station involved in the scam and be put behind the bars .
Early Times tried to call up higher authorities to get the status of police's dereliction of duty, but got no answer.
