JAMMU, July 29: Students of Government Girls Higher Secondary School (GGHSS), Rehari Colony, enmass with their teachers were today entertained on theme subject 'Respect to Women Crucial For Nation Building' as part of national project "Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP)."
SS Bijral IGP (Rtd), state convener of BBBP, chief guest on the occasion, at the outset urged girl students to not let their pride be hit by being considered less important and least desired indicated by falling Child Sex Ratio (CSR) and female foeticide. He said girl child is disfavoured not because of any of her deficiencies but out of ignorance of her gifted capabilities. He struck a cautious note observing out of 160 critical districts nationwide nine districts are from J&K where CSR compared to 1000 boys as per 2011 census is appalling with Jammu (795), Kathua (831), Pulwama (829), Budgam (832), Anantnag (841), Samba (729), Baramulla (863) and Ganderbal (863). Bijral called upon students to be 'rajdoot' for PM Narinder Modi campaign of BBBP making a fervent appeal to 'deshwasis' to invest and strengthen girl child (women) to strengthen Bharat.
Anju Dogra state committee member in her address said it is the mother who does not favour birth of girl child as was revealed through survey conducted in Haryana.
