Early Times Report

Rajouri, Aug 31: Within days of making public his woeful tale of victimization by a BJP MLA and his "henchmen", the former Block Development Officer, Lamberi here, has started receiving threats while the police are reluctant to file a case.
Jagan Nath Sharma, the former Block Development Officer, Lamberi area of Nowshera Tehsil said since the day he recently spoke to Early Times to expose the "political hooliganism and favouritism" as prevalent in Lamberi area, he has received multiple threat calls that he would be first transferred to some "volatile area and subsequently killed along with the family."
The official who was working in the Lamberi area from April 20 to June 17, only to be subsequently attached, said even during his tenure in the area when he denied to abide by the illegal political pressures, he was beaten by BJP workers. "I was repeatedly asked to transfer government money meant for poor labourers into fictitious accounts."
The official said he has given a formal complaint to the concerned Duty Officer Police Post Lamberi. "I formally complained before police that I was beaten and pressurized to work illegally," the official said adding that in all his service tenure he has an unblemished service record. "I have worked with honesty and will die as an honest man," the official said.
He said one the Block Level Workers, Roshan Lal, who is allegedly a henchmen of a BJP MLA beat him several times.
Sources said the police was under pressure not to file any complaint against the "BJP people."
The concerned Police Post Duty Officer, Wanshwar Singh, however, has a self-satisfying excuse to defend non filing of FIR as sought by the government official.
"See both the parties (BJP men and the former BDO) have compromised so why should I file any complaint?" Singh told Early Times.
The victim official however contested the police claims saying "If I have compromised let the police show me the documental evidence of compromise." "This is nothing but a white lie of the police only because the cops are hand in glove with the political mafia," the official said.
He said there was every threat to his life and that of his family.
The former BDO had told Early Times that a BJP MLA and his henchmen had been pressuring him to release MGNREGA payments meant for poor labourers in favour of fictitious bank accounts including those in names of dead and blind men.
The BDO said after the concerned police station failed to register his complaint for over two months he approached the office of the Deputy Inspector General of Police, but to no avail.
When contacted the DIG said the matter would be looked into.
