Early Times Report

Srinagar, Aug 31: Rattled by the unending unrest and alarming deaths in Kashmir valley, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to visit the Kashmir in the second week of September to personally take stock of the situation besides holding a high-level meeting on security.
Top sources within the BJP informed Early Times that the Prime minister is likely to visit valley on the eve of Eid-ul-Zuha to be celebrated on September 13. "The Centre government is hoping that the situation will improve in coming days especially in view of the approaching Eid-ul-Zuha. But in order to sooth the nerves of the people, the PM may visit to valley on the eve of Eid," one of the senior BJP leaders said.
Sources said that the BJP's state unit in a recently held meeting with the Home Minister Rajnath Singh at Srinagar pressed for PM's visit to Kashmir. "We told Home Minister that the Modiji must come here and address the people. The Home Minister informed us that the Prime Minister’s Kashmir visit has already been discussed in a recent meeting chaired by the prime minister himself that was also attended, by Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, and National Security Adviser Ajit Doval.
Meanwhile All Party Parliamentary delegation is visiting Kashmir in the next week to meet cross section of people, amidst the ongoing unrest in Kashmir Valley.
Sources said that before visiting the valley the Prime minister may consult all party delegation for the Kashmir tour aimed at restoring peace.
Sources said that the Prime minister is unhappy for the state government for being unable to contain the violence. "The PM intends to read the situation and take corrective steps," sources said.
Sources said that Prime Minister's visit could have serious political implications in Kashmir. Modi's main objective in Kashmir would be two-fold: to take a ringside view of the security situation and to personally monitor the healing touch moves aimed at stopping the alienation of the Kashmiris," source maintained.
This will be Modi's first visit to Kashmir since Mehbooba Mufti became the Chief Minister of the state.
The visit also assumes significance amid rumors of Presidents rule in the Jammu and Kashmir.
Sources said that there is a clear message from the Centre to the Chief Minister and State BJP leadership to control the growing unrest in the State. According to official sources, Mehbooba and Dr Nirmal Singh have been conveyed in no uncertain terms that there was a need for putting an end to the cycle of violence.
Meanwhile a million dollar question raises that if the members of All Party delegation will be able to break the ice in Kashmir when they visit Srinagar in the next week.
The experts suggested that the success of the All Party delegation depends on the next move of the Government. "If the Government is able to launch a crackdown on those inciting people to indulge in acts of violence it would be easy for the All Party delegation members to meet a cross section of people and political leaders freely," one of the political expert wished not to be named said.
