Jammu, Sept 30: The Sub Division hospital Billawar, located in the area represented by a senior BJP minister awaits appointment of specialists doctors for several years. According to local, there is dearth of specialists, despite sanctioned posts, the poor and helpless people have lost their lives without treatment. "For better health care, we have, Government Medical College Jammu as the only option, that too out of reach of the poor people. One has to travel at least 130 kilometes to reach Jammu. It is also very time consuming, and sometimes people die on the way", said Mukesh Kumar a university student from Billawar. He said that a number of road accident took place recently, but due to non-availability of specialists most of the victims were referred to GMC Jammu, even those suffering with minor injuries. "During rainy season, the number of road accidents increases but unfortunately, due callousness of leadership and administration the poor people die without treatment in local hospital", said a staff member of SDH Billawar. According to sources not only the surgeon, but the post of Anesthetist and child specialist are also vacant for a long time. Manish a local, said that when a patient refers due to absence of specialist in our local hospital, apart from patient, his attendant too face difficulties. "It is difficult for poor people to stay in Jammu during treatment of their patient. Some people are unable to buy prescribed medicine, required to the patient, who they can afford other expenses", he said narrating experience of poor people who visit GMCH for better treatment. He said that it would be trauma for a person, if he/she has stay in Jammu for long time, to get treated their patients. "It exposes the claims of our leaders, who beat their chest and claims to serve people at their door steps, if you don't have specialist doctors in hilly areas despite sanctioned posts", he added. Chief Medical Officer, Dr R K Sangra acknowledged that post of surgeon was vacant. "Doctors' who joined under NRHM, have left the jobs and several posts in remote areas are vacant", he said, adding that requirements have been forwarded to Director Health Services Jammu, and it is expected soon the vacant post would be filled. |
