Setting in a fast pace of competition among the cell-phone operators in this state of "telephone revolution" the Aditya Birla-promoted Idea Cellular Ltd today bagged Letters of Intent (LoIs) from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) for providing Unified Access Services in Jammu and Kashmir.
A company official said that it will be rolling out services in Jammu and Kashmir as soon as spectrum is made available.
Idea Cellular is a wireless telephony company operating in various states in India. It initially started in 1995 as a join venture between the Tatas, Aditya Birla Group and AT&T by merging Tata Cellular and Birla AT&T Communications.
Initially having a very limited footprint in the GSM arena, the acquisition of Escotel in 2004 gave Idea a truly pan-India presence covering Maharashtra (excluding Mumbai), Goa, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh (East and West), Haryana, Kerala, Rajasthan and Delhi (inclusive of NCR). The state Government has spent over Rs. 171 lakhs on fuel charges for choppers, maintenance charges and flying charges during the last two years.
This includes the fuel expenses on the helicopters belonging to the Airforce.
As per the data tabled in the state assembly here today, the state government in its written reply informed the house that the state spent an amount of Rs.46.65 lakhs on chopper fuel during 2006-2007 and during the last less than nine months the expenses have been to the tune of Rs.32.17 lakhs.
