In a major development, following intelligence inputs suggesting danger to the life of Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, a complete overhaul has been carried out in his security grid as an insider was reportedly in collusion with some saboteurs.
One security official has been called for questioning by the authorities while 12 persons are reported to have been removed from the Chief Minister's security. The officials were in the orbit of doubt and were shifted after a keen surveillance of their activities. Those shifted included telephone operators, gardeners, attendants, supervisors and security staffers, they said, adding this has been done following threats by militants to target the Chief Minister.
All telephones and mobile calls at Azad's residence are being monitored, they said, adding the multi-ringed security of the Chief Minister has been further beefed up under a Deputy Inspector General (DIG).

The Forest Minister Qazi Mohammad Afzal today circulated to media in Srinagar copies of the Kundal report which clearly mentions that the Minister was aware of the doubtful developments in the department. However, the indication is about the then Forest Minister (now Finance Minister) Tariq Hameed Karra who is also from the Peoples Democratic Party. Armed with figures, the Governor Lt Gen (retd) SK Sinha today assured the advocates of demilitarization that troop deployment in Jammu and Kashmir is lowest than many other conflict riddles areas.

Bashir Ahmad, the top commander of Harkat-ul-Jihadi Islami (HuJI) and wanted in many blast cases in Uttar Pradesh as well, was Friday killed in a shootout with security forces in a village in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir.
Farooq Khan, Deputy Inspector General of Police (Doda range) said: "Bashir was the most wanted terrorist in Uttar Pradesh and the rest of India."
He said Bashir was behind many bombings in Uttar Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir.
The police tracked down Bashir to his hideout in Chatroo area, located at an altitude of more than 8,000 feet. The militant was killed after a brief shootout with security forces.
