George points finger at Prez, Kalam mum
10/10/2006 8:04:40 PM
New Delhi October 10 Rejecting allegations of corruption against him in the Barak missiles deal with Israel, former defence minister George Fernandes has said that any charge should start with President A P J Abdul Kalam. "In so far as Barak is concerned, if they have to make any charge, then it should start with the President, who first called for it (the missile system) before I went into the government," he told reporters on Tuesday shortly after CBI filed a First Information Report naming him as an accused in a case of corruption in the Barak missile deal. The Rashtrapati Bhavan chose to remain silent on the allegations. "He (the then scientific adviser to defence minis...

NEW DELHI: The Labour Ministry notification banning employing children below 14 years as domestic helps or at eateries on Tuesday came into force even as the children have little to cheer about in the absence of a comprehensive rehabilitation package. The ban is accompanied by provisions imposing punishment which includes a jail term upto one year, sources in the labour ministry said. NGOs have raised questioned on the success of the ban and asked how the government will ensure effective implementation of the Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act that bars children under 14 years from working as domestic help or servants at roadside eateries and other non-hazardous jobs. ...

The rest of the students, the US administration has been told, would be sent home if they failed to furnish surety bonds by their respective governments by the end of Ramadan.
