| Rahul kills two birds with one stroke | | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct 6: Rahul Gandhi has killed two birds with one stroke. Congress general secretary said he can't force the State Government to adopt 73rd and 74th Constitutional amendments but at the same time made his intention clear that these will be in the interest of J&K for empowerment of panchayats.
Article 243 had clearly stated and also defined some powers rest with the States to implement some provisos of the Amendments.
In respect of J&K Government any Parliamentary Act can't be adopted in toto unless rectified or passed by the State Assembly.
Rahul taking right cue from Constitution had made this politically correct statement.

| | | | What is new about latest bonhomie between Gandhis and Abdullahs? | | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct 6: The latest bonhomie between Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi and State Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is definitely rooted in the history of the State, but it has not always necessarily been to the advantage of the two families.
One needs to go back into history to realize that in politics there are no permanent friends or enemies and what is true about politics as a general rule has also been true of the political relationship of Gandhis and Abdullahs.
Immediately after the state's accession with the country in 1947 late Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah told Prime Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru in his famous Lal Chowk speech, 'Tu Man Shudi, Man Tu Shudi' which ...
| | | | What do TATAs and Birlas need in JK? | | Besides Rahul's generosity, Omar has to play Modi | | | ET Report
JAMMU, Oct 6: The All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary, Rahul Gandhi being a Kashmiri did the people of his homeland a favour by bringing top businessmen of the country along. The TATAs and Birlas showed keen interest to invest in Rahul's ancestral abode. While the people of Kashmir have been moved by Rahul's generosity, the State Government is likely to spoil the broth.
Incidentally this is not the first time when investors have been brought to the State. Like TATAs and Birlas they also promised a lot. Some of them were interested in translating their promises into reality but for want of NOCs from various departments the projects were shelved.

| | | | Will Tatas, Birlas, HDFC & Wipro go the way Bajaj's went in Srinagar in 1980? | | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct 6: When top functionaries of Bajaj Electricals were invited by the then Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Sheikh Abdullah, to Srinagar in 1980 for setting up industrial units in the Valley the visit ended in a fiasco even after the company built the clock tower in Lal Chowk and installed about half a dozen fluorescent street lights without charging anything from the Government.
The reason for Bajaj's hasty retreat was not the outcome of any political reason but the result of red tape in the offices related to the issuance of licence, clearance of the project report and okay from the Pollution Control Board etc.
When the senior functionaries of Bajaj Elec...

JAMMU, Oct 6: In the one upmanship 'show' seen lately in the Ministry of Cooperatives with authorities at the helm in Jammu Citizen's Cooperative Bank, one more interesting event is in offing that is likely to turn the present scenario of 'war of nerves' between the Minister concerned and newly elected chairman interesting. For even though the premise of the event is to organise a gala function based on awareness of Cooperative movement related aspects to public but what makes it all the more interesting is that it would be supported by a political party.
Sources said a rally cum cooperative movement related gala function is being organized under the stewardship of C...
| | | | NC sticks to its controversial stand, says J-K a political issue | | Jammu Leadership | | | Rustam
JAMMU, Oct 6: NC leader and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah appreciated the visiting AICC general secretary and AICC president Sonia Gandhi's son Rahul Gandhi's goodwill gestures as well as his concern for the people of Kashmir. However, he, at the same time, made it clear that though he was highly appreciated of Rahul Gandhi, he would want the latter to understand that it was imperative to address political issues of Jammu and Kashmir and that the best way would be to initiate Centre-State internal dialogue with a view to settling the unsettled Jammu and Kashmir issue.
"While we have to negotiate various challenges on development front and deal with militancy-related issues, we have ...
| | | | Kashmiri 'pain' moves compassionate Rahul | | Taunting Jammu | | | Neha
JAMMU, Oct 6: Compassionate AICC general secretary and the Congress's Prime Ministerial candidate, Rahul Gandhi, remained in Srinagar for more than 24 hours and did exactly what was expected of him. He had brought business tycoons to Srinagar and his targets were the people of highly privileged and prosperous Kashmir in general and Kashmiri youth in particular. His objective was to tell Kashmiri people and Kashmiri youth that the Congress would maintain relations with them the way it has been maintaining relations with the Abdullah family.
During his brief interaction with media persons the day he reached Srinagar, he made it absolutely clear that he will always be at the back and ca...
