But Delhi shouldn't send military personnel to Kabul

B L KAK NEW DELHI Nov 27 The crisis in Afghanistan is, of course, a cause for concern. India seems keen to help Kabul effectively control the burning situation in Afghanistan. Afghanistan is sucking in more soldiers than the seemingly overwhelming forces with their superior firepower had originally envisaged. Kabul also seems keen to make New Delhi rush Indian military personnel to help the Afghan authorites contain lawlessness in the landlocked country. During a recent visit to India by Afghan President, Hamid Karzai, Delhi was approached to play a greater role. But it must keep a distance for various reasons. Far more unstable after American intervention, a new and deadlier strain of the Taliban has emerged from the dusty hinterland to challenge it. A Taliban that Afghan government officials have repeatedly said has its genesis across the border in the Pakistani cities of Peshawar and Quetta, where the ethnic Pashtuns share a common gene pool as well as an implacable hostility to all things outside their conservative ken. B L KAK NEW DELHI, Nov 27 The Minister for External Affairs, Pranab Mukherjee, and his Pakistani counterpart, Khursheed Mehmood Kasuri, on Monday reviewed a fragile peace process and exchanged views at a meeting in the Indian capital. Mukherjee, who hosted an informal lunch for Kasuri, had no structured agenda for the meeting. This notwithstanding, the two leaders devoted much time to the joint anti-terror mechanism between India and Pakistan. According to insiders, Pakistan's Foreign Minister sought to engage Mukherjee in discussions on Kashmir issue and Siachen dispute.
