Its official: PDP-Congress to face elections in alliance

Early Times Reporter Jammu | Dec 10: Its official now –the Peoples Democratic Party and the Congress, despite their inherent ideological differences and after fighting in the public, will contest the forthcoming assembly elections in an alliance. Though the continuation of this alliance seems to have arrived at through a decision of the Congress high command, but the ease in relations comes following recent meeting between Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed at the latter's residence. "It is certain that the PDD and Congress will form an alliance for the next elections but the only thing yet to be decided is whether it will be a pre-poll alliance or tactical alliance", said Deputy Chief Minister Muzaffar Hussain Baig here this evening. Speaking to a Television news channel, Baig said, Congress and the PDP are the natural partners and the electoral alliance between them is important to keep the parties like the National Conference and the BJP out of power. Governor Lt Gen SK Sinha administered him the oath of office and secrecy at a brief ceremony in the Raj Bhawan lawns this morning which was attended by Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, his predecessor Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, Ministers, legislators and bureaucrats.
