Hailing from Sopore in Baramulla district, the 70 years old Soz, had a dramatic rise in politics.
A well learned educationist, Soz joined the National Conference after spending a long stint in the government services. He was first elected to the Lok Sabha in 1983 and was re-elected to eighth Lok Sabha in 1984 and remained a Member of Parliament till 1989. In 1989 he was again elected to the Lok Sabha from Baramulla Kupwara constituency of North Kashmir.

The aspiring Dental Surgeons had to cut a sorry figure and go empty hands again as the authorities, who had earlier fixed their interview for filling the posts of Dental surgeons on contractual basis for today, was abruptly postponed. This postponement of interview second time in a row led to protest demonstration by the aspiring candidates.
The protesting candidates alleged that the government has made a mockery of its own decisions and seems little concerned about the future of the educated unemployed youth.

After two days of improvement in weather, the National Highway today again closed following landslides even as the cold waves further deepened across the state.
The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was closed for traffic today due to landslides in Ramban district. Landslides hit the highway at Tringla area in Ramban, blocking the highway, official sources said adding the road has also sunk near Ramban.
Two-three vehicles were trapped in the landslides and efforts were being made by the Border Road Organisation to pull out the trucks from the area. Over 500 vehicles were stranded on the highway.

The international flights to and from Srinagar Airport will operate from this summer with the new terminal building getting ready by June 2008. To start with, flights will be operated to and from the Gulf countries.
The significant and far-reaching decision was taken at a meeting in New Delhi last night between Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and Union Minister for Civil Aviation, Praful Patel. The Press Council of India, the highest media watchdog in the country, while seriously reprimanding a Jammu based English daily and recommended for suspension of the government advertisements to the said newspaper for a specified period.
In a complaint filed by Senior Superintendent of Police, Jammu, the Press Council of India inducted the newspaper STATE TIMES and its editor for abjuring its responsibility and even duty towards the country's security and independence by publishing a false and fabricated news item.
