While the hopes to clear National Highway for vehicular movement diminished due to the heavy rainfall on Tuesday, hundreds of stranded passengers hold protest demonstration in Jammu against what they termed as government apathy towards their sufferings.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today asserted that the government was making all out efforts to contain inflation without compromising on the growth of agriculture and industry.
"We are trying to control inflation while stimulating the growth impulses in our economy because that is the only way you can create more jobs for our youth, for our young people," he told reporters in Parliament House.
Singh said the challenge before the country was to tackle inflation without hurting the growth of agricultural and industrial economy.

The Economic Survey for 2006-07, tabled in Parliament on Tuesday by Finance Minister, P Chidambaram, portrays a dismal picture of prices of essential commodities. It seems that there is more bad news for the Congress-led coaliton government at the Centre as the survey says that prices are not coming down soon.
The survey suggested that the government should brace up for a bout of sustained inflation. Unless supply of essentials is increased, prices will not be tamed, the official document warned. However the good news is that the economy has decidedly taken off to a higher growth phase. It needs to be sustained without upping inflation.

The performance of Jammu and Kashmir Projects Construction Corporation Limited has been found suboptimal by the CAG report as the company has failed to execute works secured on tender basis.
The inability of the company to execute four works, forced the clients to rescind the contracts resulting in loss Rs 20.38 lakh, besides doubtful recovery of Rs 2.75 crore.
