Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Feb 8: Several parts of Jammu and Kashmir, including Srinagar city, witnessed the warmest January in 43 years, the Meteorological Centre Srinagar’s data said. In terms of snowfall or rains, Srinagar city witnessed the second driest January in the past four decades, recording a mere 3.0 mm of precipitation in the month this year, it said. The lowest precipitation in the winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir was recorded in January 2018 when only 1.2 mm of rainfall or snow took place. Early Times Report Srinagar, Feb 8: Cold wave conditions continue in the Kashmir Valley, with nighttime temperatures witnessing a fall all across as Srinagar recorded a low of minus 5.2°C on Thursday, officials said. After recent significant snowfall, the minimum temperatures at tourist destinations continue to slip. The Meteorological Centre at Srinagar said the Sonamarg tourist resort in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district registered the night temperature at -13.1 °C. Active Covid cases on decline

NEW DELHI, Feb 8: India has logged 211 fresh cases of Covid, while the number of active cases of the infection declined to 1,478 from 1,496, the health ministry said on Thursday. One new death has been reported in a span of 24 hours, according to the ministry’s data updated at 8 am. The number of daily cases had dropped to double-digits till December 5, 2023 but cases had begun to increase after emergence of a new variant and cold weather conditions. After December 5, a maximum of 841 new cases were reported on December 31, 2023 which is 0.2 per cent of the peak cases reported in May 2021, official sources said. Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Feb 8: A massive avalanche struck the Sonamarg area on Srinagar-Leh Highway on Thursday, officials said. No loss of life has been reported so far, they said. NEW DELHI, Feb 8: Union minister Amit Shah on Thursday announced that the ministry of home affairs (MHA) has decided that the Free Movement Regime (FMR) between India and Myanmar be scrapped to ensure the internal security of the country.
