Jammu, Feb 7: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said that weaker and marginalized sections of the society in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir were empowered after the abrogation of Article 370. Replaying to the Motion of Thanks on the President's address to Parliament in Rajya Sabha today, the Prime Minister touched upon the rights and development of Scheduled Castes (SCs) Scheduled Tribes (STs), and Other Backward Classes (OBCs) communities and said that abrogation of Article 370 ensured that these communities get the same rights as the rest of the country in Jammu and Kashmir.

Jammu, Feb 7: Notwithstanding resentment being shown by some groups, the passing of the historic “Constitution (Jammu and Kashmir) Schedule Tribes Order (Amendment) Bill, 2023” has brightened the chances of the BJP to expand its footprints in Kashmir Valley ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. SRINAGAR, Feb 7: Terrorists shot dead one person and injuring other in Karfali Mohalla ShalKadal area of Srinagar district on Wednesday evening.

Jammu, Feb 7: After Parliament gave nod to the grant of Scheduled Tribe status to the Pahari community in J&K, authorities on Wednesday imposed restrictions on Internet and mob gathering in Poonch and Rajouri districts. Parliament on Tuesday passed the grant of scheduled tribe (ST) status to the Pahari community living in different parts of J&K.
So far, Gujjar/Bakerwal community had the Scheduled Tribe status with 9 per cent reservation in government jobs for members of this community.

JAMMU, Feb 7: After remaining closed for maintenance, traffic was restored on the strategic Jammu-Srinagar national highway on Wednesday.
Traffic department officials said that the highway has been opened this morning. “Light motor vehicles (LMVs) would be allowed to move on the highway from Srinagar and Jammu while the movement of heavy motor vehicles (HMVs) will be regulated,” officials said.
