Jammu, June 17: With no let up in snowfall in the upper reaches and rains in the plains, the mercury further dipped in Jammu and Kashmir.
The maximum temperature in Srinagar recorded in the city was 23 degree celsius -- six degrees below normal -- and the minimum was 12.8 degrees -- 2.2 degrees below normal, the Met office said.
It said Jammu recorded a high of 36.4 degree celsius -- 5.4 notches below normal. The city experienced a low of 20.5 degrees -- 7.5 degrees below normal.
Katra, the base camp for Vaishno Devi pilgrimage, was the second hottest place at a maximum of 32.9 degrees and a minimum of 18.7 degree celsius.

On Board PM's Special Aircraft, June 17: Against the backdrop of uproar in Kashmir over the alleged rape of two girls, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday said his government is committed to 'zero tolerance' against rights violations and effective action will be taken in such cases.
Responding to a question on the Shopian rape case, he said it was "very unfortunate" that such incidents have taken place.
"If there is any violation of human rights, we will take effective action," he told journalists, adding that the government was committed to 'zero tolerance' to rights violations.

New Delhi, June 17: With India putting Pakistan on the defensive over cross-border terrorism, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday said President Asif Ali Zardari did not raise the Kashmir issue during his discussions with him in Russia.
"No discussion on Kashmir took place. He did not raise it nor did I raise it," Manmohan Singh told journalists on his return home a day after his talks with Zardari in the Russian city of Yekaterinburg.
The 40-minute talks focused on terrorism that has strained ties between India and Pakistan and brought their compsite dialogue to a halt after the 26/11 Mumbai carnage.

Jammu, June 17: After remaining suspended for two consecutive days, a batch of Amarnath pilgrims will leave Jammu for Baltal tomorrow.
DC Jammu Mandeep K. Bhandari said that the yatra will resume again tomorrow from Jammu and at present, there are around 500 yatris registered with Baltal route are staying in Yatrai Niwas at Bagwati Nagar. There may be around 1500 more yatries staying in different places at Jammu.

The Minister visited the office of Regional Director, Pollution Control Board and IWDP, Hills, (Camp Office) Forest Department at Transport Yard, Narwal and found that majority of the employees had not turned up even after 8.30 am while the camp office of Environment and Remote Sensing, was found locked.
