| EU and India share onus to combat terror: Azad | | | |

Brussels - The European Union and India have enormous responsibility to promote peace and prosperity and combat terrorism all over the world, says Ghulam Nabi Azad, chief minister of the troubled north Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir.
‘Both the EU and India have suffered immensely from terrorism and Jammu and Kashmir has borne the brunt of these terrorist attacks,’ Azad told a gathering of diplomats, journalists and officials here.
Azad, who is on a two-day visit to the EU capital, was invited by Brussels-based think-tank European Institute for Asian Studies to speak on ‘EU - India: Pluralism and Diversity’.
He is also expected to meet European Parliament (EP) President Josep Borrell, chair of EP’s foreign relations committee Elmar Brok and other MEPs during his visit.
Commenting on EU diversity and the shared values of democracy, pluralism and human rights, Azad said, ‘We see EU strategic partnership with India as a remarkable recognition of our modern pluralist state.’

| J&K earns Rs 75 crore through export of vegetables | | | | September, Sept 20: Jammu and Kashmir has changed its image as a perennial importer of food items by exporting 16,500 metric tonnes of vegetables and earned Rs 75 crore last year, said an official spokesman.
The vegetables, exported to different parts of the country, were produced by the state agriculture department, the spokesman said after a meeting chaired by Minister of State for Agriculture Aijaz Ahmad Khan yesterday.
Last year, 6.15 lakh hybrid vegetable seedlings were raised in departmental nurseries. Of these, 2.92 lakh seedlings were distributed among farmers at concessional rates, he added.

NEW DELHI, SEPT. 20:It is official: Government of India has no plans, at present, to order withdrawal of its troops from the strategic Siachen glacier in Ladakh in eastern Kashmir.

Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf on Tuesday said a solution to festering conflicts with India, including over Kashmir, are within reach after a recent summit with his Indian counterpart.

Islamabad (Pak), Sept 20: The biggest Pakistan-based militant group fighting in Kashmir on Wednesday offered a conditional cease-fire during the month of Ramzan, which is set to begin next week.
Ehsan Elahi, chief spokesman for the Hezb-ul Mujahideen group, said the limited cease-fire depended on Indian troop reductions on its side of the Line of Control separating the war-divided Himalayan region of Kashmir.
