Centre seeks list of honest officers
Operation Rehabilitation
9/23/2014 12:01:39 AM
Says no to int'l aid; keeps State govt, separatists at bay Fazal Khan Srinagar, Sept 22: Centre is all set to expedite the rehabilitation process in flood ravaged Jammu and Kashmir in coming days. However, it wants that relief should reach the needy people and none of the political parties should try to derive mileage out of it. Sources told Early Times that to begin with Centre has set up a high level committee to assess the losses across the state. "Centre is keen on roping in the honest officers, who don't have any political affiliations, for the job," sources said, adding, "a few BJP leaders from JK have been asked to forward the list of the honest officers to the party high command." There are rumors making rounds that State Government is insisting that relief operations should be handed over to the local administration as it is aware about the topography of the state. BJP led NDA Government in the Centre is understood to have turned down State Government's proposal to handover the rehabilitation operation to the local administration. "State Government has been told in cle...

Both Jammu and Valley suffered huge losses
Needed: Equal treatment
9/23/2014 12:01:17 AM
Rustam JAMMU, Sept 22: The September floods were perhaps the first in history, in the living memory of Jammu & Kashmir. These flash floods, coupled with landslides on an unprecedented scale in both the regions of the state, threw the entire life out of gear and disrupted all socio-economic and political activities. The suffering of the people and infrastructure is just unimaginable. It was no wonder then that the highly moved Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who visited the flood-ravaged state to have on the spot assessment, described the crisis as a national-level disaster and made a passionate appeal to all to donate as much as they could to the relief fund so that some of the hardships of ...

Govt's dichotomy
9/23/2014 12:01:03 AM
Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 22: The Government's pick and choose policy can be gauged from the fact that while some face axe for no fault , others get privileges, though number of protest demonstrations were held against the employees and officials who left to Jammu leaving the people of Kashmir in the lurch. The action is yet to be taken by the Government against the employees who remained absent in Civil Secretariat in Srinagar which re-opened on Thursday after being shut for 11 days due to the devastating floods that ravaged the state. Less than 10% of the employees reported to work at the scheduled opening time at 9:30 am, the official in-charge of security at the Secretariat sa...

Floods wash away many a political ambitions within BJP
9/23/2014 12:00:52 AM
Abodh Sharma JAMMU, Sept 22: Recent floods across Jammu and Kashmir have washed away not just precious lives and property in Jammu and Kashmir, but also political ambitions of many within state BJP who were expecting to ride over the strong Modi wave that swept last Parliamentary elections. With unprecedented floods negating any political activity in the state atleast for the next couple of months, the political ambitions of these BJP aspirants are slowly ebbing out and the recent results of the Assembly by polls in four states have further dampened their ambitions. The enthusiasm and the spirit that was imbibed in the workers by the results of Parliamentary elections and visit of the p...

Seek liberal funding from New Delhi without assessment
JK Govt fails people yet again
9/23/2014 12:00:43 AM
ET Report Srinagar, Sept 22: The Centre has expressed its displeasure over the failure of the State Government to assess the exact damages to the state infrastructure due to floods. It's because of this callous attitude of the state Government, that the Centre has not been able to finalize the exact details of funds to be provided. The issue had according to source, cropped up in the meeting of Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah who had asked for liberal funding from the Centre. "Omar insisted on liberal funding. But when the Union Minister asked for details, the CM gave sketch and conflicting figures, which put off the Union Minister," said a senior Government...

9/23/2014 12:00:21 AM
*Selector selected as HOD Syed Junaid Hashmi JAMMU, Sept 22: Teaching departments in Central University (CU) Jammu too have their own story where heads and other faculty members have been appointed without following rules and regulations which other Central Universities adhere to. Ex-Vice-Chancellor of Sudhir Singh Baloeria has seemingly applied the bureaucratic mindset while making appointments to the Central University (CU) Jammu. If the records are any indication, Baloeria has not even bothered to cross-check what the so-called experts and high profile so-called subject specialists had been doing vis-à-vis the selection of faculty members for heading various courses. Neha JAMMU, Sept 22: Enemies of humanity and the Indian nation Syed Ali Shah Geelani, who sought and got the army's help to save his life, and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who did not utter a word of sympathy even for the flood-ravaged Kashmiri Muslims till the other day, are back on the scene. Instead of hailing the efforts of the Government of India and Army, Air Force, Navy, NDRF, CRPF and BSF and the Indian nation as whole, which swung solidly behind the flood-affected people in the state, these ungrateful separatists have started indulging in dirty politics.
