Is PIB Hurriyat's PR agency?
9/24/2007 11:41:33 PM
Early TImes Reporter Jammu | Sep 24 The Press Information Bureau –a premiere news and public opinion building agency of the government of India – has a mandate of highlighting initiatives and programs of the central government but guess what if this agency is assigned with the public relations task of the separatist organizations. This may have been a slip of pen or slip of thought but the PIB made an interesting news. Under the Minister of Information and Broadcasting, the Press Information Bureau is a nodal information dissemination department for all central government ministries, departments and undertakings. Interestingly and ironically its wing in Jammu and Kashmir seems working for the Hurriyat Conference –though for a little while. This afternoon, the news units here were quite surprised to see a Hurriyat Conference press note delivered by the Press Information Bureau. From its routine mailing node, the PIB's Jammu office carried an item attributed to the statement of a Hurriyat leader Ghulam Ahmed Mir. Even though an hour later the PIB's communication officer had to...

On brink, Div Com office being moved
9/24/2007 11:40:48 PM
Early Times Reporter Jammu|Sep 24 Much later than expected, the office of the Divisional Commissioner has not send a warning but also shivers down the spine of its inmates as they have a brush with their life each time they attend the office. Considered unsafe since long, the building of the Jammu's Divisional Commissioner office has built cracks and last week it appeared as it may collapse any moment like a pack of cards. It is been almost ten years now that the officers attending the Divisional Commissioner office, including the divisional administrative boss, have been spending seven odd hours in an unsafe zone on every working day. The danger was felt too closely last week when th...

Early Times Reporter Jammu|Sep 24 Ladakh –the Himalayan cold desert which has so far preferred to stay away from the political conflict –has become a heart to mind ache for the separatists of Kashmir as well as Pakistan. The joint military exercise between Indian and British forces currently going on in Ladakh have kicked off a controversy amidst the separatist circles and has disappointed much Pakistan. A learning experience for the British forces to fight in the tough terrains like Afghanistan has come not only as a diplomatic but also a political controversy. The Kashmiri separatists as well as Pakistan have since long been projecting "Jammu and Kashmir" as a disputed territory des...

With unwise friends like Karunanidhi, Congress hardly needs enemy to dump it
9/24/2007 11:15:39 PM
Early Times Special Correspondent Jammu | Sep 24 With friends like Karunanidhi and DMK on their side, Congress needs no enemy to harm its prospects. The BJP, on the other hand will not find a better friend than the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and his ruling party in Tamil Nadu as their foes. By prolonging the controversy over the historicity of Ram and Ram Setu, claimed to have been built on the command of Rama by his monkeys force, the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and other leaders and activists of the DMK are only helping BJP to be on the come back trail and come out of its internal contradictions, search for identity and electoral issues as well as the race for supremacy in the party. Whe...
