JAMMU, Sept 2: The Congress leadership is desperate to win some seats in the upcoming Assembly elections. It has started raking up issues which the NC-Congress government could have tackled on its own to an extent, but it didn't do that. What things have changed for them and they have come to realize that they have to go many miles to make up the loss. Hence, convinced that their indifferent attitude towards the people would further harm their electoral interests, the Congress leadership has thought of a methodology that could, according to them, harm the poll prospects of their arch political rivals in the Jammu province and improve the poll prospects of the Congress party. | | | | Defeating essence of equality, Jammu's Royalty still obsessed with titles | | | | Abodh Sharma
JAMMU, Sept 2: Over six and a half decades after monarchy was abolished in India, a member of the family that once ruled the state is finding it hard to do away with the titles which designate the royalty status, violating the spirit and essence of equality guaranteed by the constitution to the citizens of India.
Even as Dr. Karan Singh, the son of Maharaja Hari Singh, the last ruler of the state has refrained from using any such titles after his father affected the accession of the state to the Union of India in 1948, his son Ajat Shatru Singh, a National Conference MLC has not been able to win over the temptation of using the prefix 'MK' (Maharaj Kumar). "It is strange that...

srinagar, Sept 2: The government departments in the recent past have developed a habit of issuing orders but not following them up with requisite action. This makes a mockery of the system and it gives an impression that the people at helm are not serious in implementation of orders issued by them.
More than a month and half have passed ever since the Education Department issued order for the promotion of post graduate masters/teachers of chemistry as in-charge lecturers, but the posting of concerned officials is yet to be done. The inordinate delay has caused heart-burns among the promoted teachers and they fear that something is cooking behind the scene.

| | | | Formation of new parties shows people's faith in democracy | | Changing political scenario in Kashmir | | | Neha
JAMMU, Sept 2: Interesting developments are taking place in Kashmir. All indicates the Kashmiris' growing faith in the Indian democracy or Indian political system. These developments also show that the protagonists of poll boycott like Syed Ali Shah Geelani are losing what little grip they had over Kashmiris by the day. This is all the more significant in the sense that Kashmiri Muslims are openly defying the diktats of the likes of Geelani by launching new political parties, all desirous of taking part in the upcoming Assembly elections and creating uncertainty for the existing major political players.
During the past three months or so, no less than five new political parties were ...
