NC SAYS 'NOT INTERESTED' IN FORMING COALITION WITH CONGRESS
9/6/2006 7:53:37 PM
Srinagar, Sept 06: President of the largest mainstream political group–National Conference, Omar Abdullah on Wednesday hurled choicest accusations on the People's Democratic Party, the rival group, of hoodwinking people of strife-torn Jammu and Kashmir by "deliberately keeping vague the actual meaning of their borrowed self-rule slogan." Regarding the expose of fissures within the coalition government after Muzaffar Baig's ouster from the cabinet and as the legislature leader of PDP, Omar said National Conference was "not interested in forming a coalition with the ruling Congress just in case the coalition collapses in wake of the recent crisis". "Our party was never interested (in forming coalition with the Congress). May be if I had met Sonia Gandhi or Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi things may have been different," the Member Parliament Mr Omar Abdullah told the news conference here at party headquarters, Nawa-i-Subah complex. Launching a scathing attack on PDP leadership Mr Omar Abdullah said that the "hidden agenda behind much trumpeted PDP's self-rule proposal was recently ex...

Growing threat to India's northeast
Serious is Bangladeshi Islamists' anti-India gameplan
9/6/2006 7:44:36 PM
B L KAK NEW DELHI: Amid the renewed talk of the need for further improvement in the relationship between India and Bangladesh, New Delhi has been left with no alternative but to monitor the developing situation across the border, in Bangladesh. The situation is not quite favourable in view of the anti-India gameplan of Bangladeshi Islamists. And if there was any doubt about it, it was set at rest by the US Institute of Peace. Created by the US Congress and partially funded by Washington, the US Institue of Peace (USIP) has raised concerns about the conections between rising terrorism in India and Bangladesh-based militant groups. This finding is contained in a new report pub...

9/6/2006 7:43:44 PM
B L KAK NEW DELHI, SEPT. 6: The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) is divided, with a section of the partymen pitted against the beleaguered president, Rajnath Singh. Indications are by no means uncertain that Rajnath Singh is being quietly edged out by his colleagues. Both his friends and critics anxiously await the BJP's line of action from the National Executive of the BJP meeting at Dehradun from Thursday, September 7.
