| Re-employment of retired officials more important than patient-care in SKIMS | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Oct 30: At a time when thousands of patients have died due to alleged negligence at Kashmir's lone super-speciality hospital Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences Soura in the last 18 months, the authorities at the hospital are more concerned to give re-employment to the retired officials than improving the patient-care. Sources told Early Time that Dr Ashraf Darzi, Professor in Plastic Surgery department was given two years extension after his retirement in December 2011 by the Director SKIMS, Dr Showkat Zarger. "JB Singh, a security officer was given two years extension after his retirement early this year in gross violation of rules. Mehjabeen Banday (Consultant Academics) was given extension after she retired last year in October," they added. Similarly, one senior resident Community Medicine Dr Samina Mufti has been given extension after she completed her resident ship at the SKIMS A senior official in the SKIMS said that the Director wants to promote one Junior Engineer working in JVC (SKIMS Medical College) despite him being only a diploma holder. "Sajad Ahmad Shah working as JE at JVC is a diploma holder in civil engineering. How has his case been personally processed by the Director himself for promotion as AEE when there is no post of AEE in civil engineering? Why does Director want his promotion against the post of AEE electricity?" he asked. He said the Director has wrongly processed his case showing that he (Shah) has obtained degree from some college outside J&K state in distance mode. "If Shah has been all along working in Kashmir, how he was studying outside state and simultaneously working at JVC? Why did Director show his qualification as graduate when he is just a diploma holder," he questioned. Sources said Dr Showkat Zargar has himself managed to get appointed as Professor in 2005 when he was nor eligible for the said post as he had not the requisite experience. "How was relaxation given to him is a dilemma? Similarly, when after returning from Saudi Arabia he managed his re-entry at SKIMS, he again managed to become Director SKIMS though he lacked requisite experience at the time of submitting application. He has just 22 years against prescribed of 25 years," they revealed. A senior doctor at SKIMS while commenting on the sad affairs of the hospital said, "It is amazing that civil society, media and others are worried about few hundred deaths that occurred at GB Panth Children Hospital in four years but nobody is bothered about more than 3500 deaths that occurred in the SKIMS in last 18 months." "Though SKIMS consumes most of health budget and has state-of-the-art infrastructure as compared to below average facilities at GB Panth Hospital, why are people, media and government silent on this issue," he asked. |
