| KSCDS alleges govt for mishandling of LPG issue | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Nov 5: The Kashmir Centre for Social and Development Studies has lambasted the state government for its 'wrong approach and gross mishandling of LPG issue that instead of bringing relief to the people has brought humiliation and dishonor to them at the hands of various authorities of the central government as well as the oil companies'. In a daylong conference held at Baramulah held under the chairpersonship of Prof Hameedah Nayeem, the members blamed that the contradictory statements from concerned and state government at different occasions have only added to the humiliation of the society. The KCSDS members alleged this is not for the first time that principle of equal opportunity has been violated but was a routine with J&K state so far as its growth and development is concerned. The continued discrimination with the state on growth and development has resulted in huge trade deficit, growing unemployment, dependence on central devolutions and imports, The members said and added the trade deficit of the state has reached to 33000 crores out of total inter-state trade of 40000 crores. The KCSDS members further said that the state has borne enormous losses on account of plunder of resources including water, mineral and forest resources. They said that instead of taking any benefit from the water resources, the successive governments have allowed loot on these resources by NHPC that has grown on the profits earned from JK projects alone. KCSDS members said if the profit earned from state's water resources can very well afford to extend subsidy of Rs 500 Crores to the weaker sections of the society on LPG cylinders. The conference also deliberated on various other issues and it was decided to hold a conferences and expert group meetings on some of the vital issues including misuse of the agricultural land. Chairperson KCSDS Prof Hameedah Nayeem, Shakeel Qalander, Z.G Mohammad, Dr Mubeen Shah, Advocate Irfan Hafiz also were present in the day long session. |
