| Holding of protests on opening of darbar has become customary for Jammu parties | | | early times report JAMMU, Nov 5: The holding of protests and taking out rallies on the opening day of darbar has become customary in Jammu for years tighter now. Keeping this tradition various organizations on the opening day of darbar held demonstrations and took out protest rallies. While some were with a genuine cause and others try to maintain the practice set in past. The SRTC retired employees took out a rally in support of their demands as they have been deprived of their dues after their voluntary retirement. However, they were not allowed to move towards the Civil Secretariat and were stopped near Guamt by the Police. Same way the Employees Joint Action Committee (EJAC) also took out a rally from Press Club in support of various demands of working class including release of arrears of 6th Pay Commission. They were also not allowed to move ahead by police and their bid to take out a procession to Civil Secretariat was foiled. While both the groups of employees are fighting for their genuine cause and have been on streets for a long time now to protest against the Government's callousness towards them but the two political parties of the state who claim to be the champions of the cause of people of Jammu region also protested on the opening of Darbar to continue the ritual. The BJP took out a car rally from the Paloura to Indira Chowk, which was led by its president Shamsher Singh Manhas. The rally failed to generate public support as majority of BJP activists and leaders also preferred to be away from it as they did not find any cause in taking out a rally particularly on the opening day of darbar as majority of party activists were of the view that such a step was sending wrong signals across. They also were opposing the decision of Party chief and his coterie were of the view that party leadership failed to take on Government against the recent hike in LPG and capping of its subsidy which has led to lot of problems to common man. Moreover the rising prices of essential commodities, increasing corruption and discrimination with the region in execution of development works and widening of roads as well as construction of flyovers in the city to meet the increasing traffic rush BJP leadership was trying to perform a customary duty by holding a symbolic protest on the opening day of Darbar. Even the Party leader came to severe criticism for not supporting the Jammu youth who protested after trooping in Assembly in September during its Autumn session in Srinagar by raising the important issues concerning the people of Jammu. Likewise the Panthers Party, which also held a demonstration in front of Raj Bhawan here today failed to mobilize the public support with people terming it a futile exercise and a political drama. The majority of Jammuites while criticising the role of the two political parties said that when they both claim to fight for the cause of Jammu why don't they join hands to launch a united struggle against the discrimination to which the region has been subjected to for years tighter. By raising the issue of discrimination with the region the leaders of these parties said that it was high time for all the Jammu parties to come on a single platform and fight for the cause.
