Jammu, Nov 5: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today ruled out any possibility of issuing additional LPG cylinders to consumers in the state, contending that his government is not in a position to do so as it would cost the exchequer an additional burden of nearly Rs 225 cr. He asserted either his government could provide subsidized power or have subsidized supply of LPG to defuse the current crisis.
"LPG is a huge problem mainly on two accounts……paying market price for the cylinders and re registration process which is proving to cumbersome…", CM said while talking to reporters informally after the press conference. Had this new regime been started in March things would have different and we would have been able to have things in place….this has caught us by surprise …", he explained, claiming his government is aware of problems faced by people.
The Chief Minister claimed that his government is urging the Centre to simplify the re registration process and extend its deadline , besides seeking increase in quota of cylinders."We are in constant touch and hopefully something positive shall emerge", he maintained.
To another question related to India Today award to state in Health Sector, the Chief Minister in a candid expression said the award has been given by the publishing House on the basis of own assessment and inputs. " It is easy for us to assess in the light of happenings on the city hospitals …… in rural areas the scenario is better but it has been overlooked…", the Chief Minister said while justifying the award given to state. He also lauded the 'progress and achievements' made under NRHM." I do not think any government has provided vast infrastructure under Health Sector", Omar claimed.
The Chief minister while responding to question related to Education sector denied that schools were being opened or upgraded under political considerations.
