| Need to design more short term courses to tap potential of ODL system: Malik | | Workshop on 'Role of Academic Counselors in ODL System' commences | |

JAMMU, Nov 8: While underscoring the role of by the private educational institutions/educational societies in the state of Jammu and Kashmir in raising the state of the art infrastructure, imparting quality education and offering employability opportunities to the students across state, Minister for Higher Education, Labour and Employment Abdul Gani Malik said there is need to design more short term capsule courses to train the resources persons to tap the potential of the ODL system. Minister for Higher Education Labour and Employment Abdul Gani Malik was the chief guest during the inaugural session of two day long national workshop on the topic 'Role of Academic Counselors in ODL System' while Vice Chancellor, University of Kashmir, Prof Talat Ahmad attended occasion as guest of honour. The said workshop was organized by the Directorate of Distance Education, University of Kashmir in collaboration with Gandhi Memorial College of Education, Raipur,, Bantalab. In his presidential address the chief guest Minister for Higher Education underscored the need to design more and more short term capsule courses to train the counsellors and resource persons to tap the potential of the ODL system. He however assured all possible help from the state government to all those private institutions who are looking forward to introduce new courses to expand the scope of distance education. He said the state government has already constituted a high level committee to study and introduce new courses in the curriculum. Meanwhile the minister also appreciated the efforts made by the Gandhi Memorial College of Education, Jammu to host this workshop and extended his best wishes to the Directorate of Distance Education, University of Kashmir and HESK for providing a stimulating platform to all the experts to share their knowledge base with the faculty. In his address Dr Talat Ahmed, Vice Chancellor, University of Kashmir appreciated the due collaboration between University of Kashmir and Hindu Education Society, Kashmir (HESK). Dr Nilofar Khan, Director, Directorate of Distance Education (DDE) briefly presented the profile of DDE highlighting the working and the different courses offered by the Department in the field of education. Before the inaugural session Anil Dhar, President, HESK formally welcomed and felicitated Minister for Higher Education and Vice Chancellor, University of Kashmir. Prof Biswas, the expert from STRIDE IGNOU also spoke on the occasion and briefed the gathering about various aspects related to the topic of workshop.
