| BJP leadership under constant pressure to contest 4 MLC seats | | | Early Times Report jammu, Nov 8: The BJP leadership is under constant pressure from party cadres to field its candidates for four MLC seats reserved for Panchayats in the state. The party leaders in a meeting here today has taken serious exception of state Party chief's style of functioning who is yet undecided whether to field the candidates for the four MLC seats or not. The BJP cadres have warned the party leadership that failure to contest the elections for the four MLC seats would lead to serious consequences. These cadres have said the decision of the leadership to stay away from the elections will give an edge to National Conference and Congress and it will be a great setback to BJP. They have also maintained that Party is in the position of even giving a tough contest in the elections to ruling alliance in case it fields the candidates and sitting away from poll will be against the party interests. Some party activists while strongly pleading for contesting the elections said that BJP being national party can not afford to stay away from these elections as it is mandatory for the Party leadership to contest the elections, sources said. Even some activists have maintained that in case party fields the candidates it can even win one seat from Jammu region as the majority of sarpanchs and panchs belong to Party ideology. They have urged the Party leadership not to waste any more time and announce its candidates for the four seats by giving a tough fight to ruling alliance and make is presence felt. They said staying away from the elections would give ruling alliance an edge and BJP will face it tough to contest the future elections in the state. Moreover with the public resentment against the ruling alliance and Panchs and Sarpanchs with banner of revolt against the ruling alliance which has failed to fulfil their aspirations and not provided security to them in view of increasing militants threat, they said the BJP was in an advantageous position. Meanwhile the two party leaders are strongly pleading the state leadership seeking party mandate to contest the elections from Jammu region. Former District president of the Akhnoor Col (retd) Uttam Singh and former vice president of the Party and senior leader from Poonch, Rajouri Kuldeep Raj Gupta are strongly pleading for their candidature. Both these leaders have even decided to approach the Party High Command in this regard in case the state leadership failed to take a decision. |
