| Meaning of Imran's Gurgaon statement on Jammu and Kashmir | | Threatening another 26/11 | | Neha jammu, Nov 8: Pakistani cricketer-turned-radical politician and president of Tehreek-e-Insaf (TeI) party Imran Khan was in Gurgaon (Haryana) the other day to participate in the World Economic Forum (WEF) meeting. Addressing the meeting, he virtually threatened India that it will witness another 26/11-like Mumbai attack if the so-called Kashmir issue "is not resolved". "Time is up for trying to solve Indo-Pak issues through 'militancy and militarily'…but unless Kashmir issue is resolved, there is 'always a possibility' of Mumbai-like attacks. If his party comes to power, he will not allow terrorism against India to originate from his country's soil. A solution to the Kashmir issue is 'vital'. Trade, connections, along with cricket matches will help. At the same time, we should develop a roadmap to resolve Kashmir issue, which is vital. Because unless we operate on both plains, there is always a possibility, as it happened, relationships were improving, confidence-building measures, cricket matches, people-to-people contacts, and then came Mumbai," he was quoted as saying. What is the meaning of what he said on the Indian soil and at a place adjoining the national capital of India, Delhi? His message was loud and clear. His message was that Jammu and Kashmir continues to be an unfinished agenda of partition for Pakistan and that it is incumbent on the part of India to resolve the Kashmir issue. In other words, he told the participants, mostly Indians, that Jammu and Kashmir is not an integral part of India; that it is a disputed territory; and that the Kashmir issue must be resolved to the satisfaction of Islamabad or as per the aspirations of Pakistan and its agents in the Kashmir valley. The provocative and outrageous Imran didn't stop just there. He went on to administer a warning to India that it will witness more 26/11 terror attacks in the event of New Delhi not resolving the issue in a manner Pakistan and its agents in Kashmir want. He didn't say Pakistan will witness Mumbai-like terror attacks in case the Kashmir issue remains unresolved; he only targeted India suggesting it is New Delhi, and not Islamabad, which has to take the initiative; suggesting that it is India, and not Pakistan, which is the root cause of all troubles in the sub-continent. Indeed, Imran Khan, who can be dismissed as an extremist, made a highly provocative statement and that too when he doesn't hold any official position. He is yet to accomplish his cherished desire of becoming Prime Minister of Pakistan, but even before attaining that position he has started threatening India with more Mumbai-like terror attacks. It's time to take serious cognizance of what Imran Khan said. Don't forget, Imran has his support-base in the Pakistani Army. |
