| Dr Kamaal ko gussa kyon aaya? | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 15: In December 2010, BJP leader, Ashok Khajuria denounced the State Flag. On December 15, Dr Mustafa Kamaal while responding to what he called `sacrilegious' act said Khajuria was anti-national. Kamaal went a step further saying BJP was anti-Muslim. "Nobody becomes an Indian by chanting Jana Gana Mana." Kamaal said. "The flag has been accepted by New Delhi and Article 370 of the Indian Constitution makes a mention of it. Every Indian must have faith in secular principles that form the very foundation of the country", he said. In the above statement Kamaal tried, though unsuccessfully to connect Muslims with the State Flag. Of course there was a time when Kashmiri Muslims identified themselves with the flag. But gone are the days. The situation in contemporary Kashmir is quite different. Now they denounce the flag as much as the BJP denounces it. There is no denying the fact that the Indian Constitution (Article 370) makes a mention of the State Flag but what difference does it make? The said article also makes a mention of autonomy. So what? Kamaal issued a controversial statement at Kishtwar on Sunday last. He said India was an enemy and Pakistan a friend. He also spoke against the Army. A person who owes allegiance to India will definitely react in such a situation. When some of them including BJP called Kamaal an anti-national element, he shot back immediately. "India is in my blood and grain. I have great regard for my country. How dare they call Mustafa Kamaal an anti-national element", he said. "My father Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah was a great nationalist. I am proud of Sheikh legacy", he added. Sher-e-Kashmir, fo Kamaal's information was an Indian only while in power. Out of power he sought liberation, division of state on communal grounds and self determination. And, when Kamaal says he is taking forward Sher-e-Kashmir's legacy, he is telling the truth! |
