A brave initiative died a political death and Omar watched!
Dissolution of probe panel against Taj

Jammu, Nov 15: Beyond the deafening din over the constitution of House Panel by the Chairman State Legislative Council to probe charges of land grabbing against the Minister for PHE Taj Mohi-ud-din and its eventual dismissal, an unprecedented initiative to bring the truth out of allegations of land grabbing against umpteen politicians of the state died an unnatural death.
The constitution of House Panel was a laudable initiative that could have gone a long way in restoring the trust of the people in democratic institutions. Even though it could not be taken to its logical conclusion, the initiative has improved the standing and the credibility of the Upper House in the public eye which many an elected representatives have rejected as abode of failed politicians and have gone on to demand its dismissal. It is remarkable that while charges of land grabbing have been levelled against numerous politicians of the state including MLAs, MPs and ministers, there is no precedence of a House Panel set up by the Lower House to probe these allegations.
While those who sabotaged the probe panel have been professing that Taj was victimised for standing by Omar, the Minister himself confessed that the land in question was government land under his occupation and he had applied for the regularization of the intrusion under Roshni Act.
Even though the Minister may be legally correct, it is pity that Taj who boasts of having properties in all districts of the state from Kathua to Uri had to seek ownership of state land under Roshni Act, against the very essence of the Act.
The entire turn of events is another example of how politicians would never allow any institution or probe panel that could wash their dirty linen in public, take off. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah who has been shedding tears of helplessness in fighting corruption in a coalition set up just watched another opportunity to meet the expectations of the people of this lesser state pass by.
