SUMIT SHARMA
Jammu, Nov 15: The high level committee constituted in mysterious 'escape' of a murder trial from Kathua Jail in August this year, underling the misusing of official chair by the two police cops including jail Superintendent and others has recommended termination of services of duo and registering an FIR in this regard.
Official sources said while police fails to arrest the fugitive- a murder accused who escaped from the Kathua's High Security Jail the Departmental Inquiry Committee in its report has recommended termination of services of Kathua Superintendent Jail, Bahadur Singh Jasrotia and Havaldar Ganesh Dass Chakra for their alleged role in taking the under trial out of the jail premises in an unauthorized manner and giving him a chance to escape from the jail.
They added that the inquiry report, submitted to the Additional Director General (ADG) of Prisons Naveen Aggarwal, states under trial was deputed by the Jail authority for milking the cow in the Govt Quarter of Superintendent Jail and it had been a routine for the last quite some time.
"To substantiate the findings the panel of inquiry recorded the statement of CRPF cops posted at the Kathua Jail who revealed that the under trial had never seen in prisoners uniform and was projected them as domestic helper to Jail Superintendent,' reports said further making startling revelations saying, "before Sohan Singh (who is presently absconding) some other under trial was managing the same work which Sohan used to do."
Report added, "On the fateful day Sohan also went to the Jail Suprintendent’s quarter for milking the cow where he escaped".
Meanwhile, sources said that the inquiry committee, however, has given clean chit to the Surinder Kumar Assistant Superintendent of Jail.
ADG Naveen Aggarwal when contacted confirmed the reports and said that appropriate action would be taken against those whose names have been pointed out by the Inquiry Committee. He further said that inquiry report submitted to him is also being examined.
Pertinently, a Departmental Inquiry Committee was constituted by ADG Prisoners after an under trial gave slip to police from Kathua Jail. Besides this, ADG also placed three cops under suspension which include Surinder Kumar Assistant Superintendent of Jail, Ganesh Das Chakra Hawaldar and Selection Grade Hawaldar Swarn Singh for negligence of duty.
A murder accused under trial Sohan Singh (35) was imprisoned since 1998, had escaped while the prison premises was being mopped up as a routine affair. Earlier, during the probe ADG was apprised by the Kathua jail authority that Singh was taken out from his barrack for routine domestic help who taking benefit of darkness and heavy rains during the wee hours this morning jumped over the fence and fled away. He was lodged in Kathua jail in connection with murder of a villager in Bani in 2008.
Pertinently there are 124 prisoners in the jail and among them 50 are hardcore militants.
