| Vakil says Congress will work with honour | | ‘Party cannot be subservient to coalition’ | | early times report Baramulla, Nov 15: Former Minister and Member AICC Abdul Gani Vakil today said that Congress party would neither be subservient nor work as a B-team in the coalition. "Instead it will work with honor and respect in administering the state", he said while addressing a rally organized by Youth Congress at Baramulla today. "Congress will never compromise on issues like corruption and the question of accountability. It will raise its voice besides keeping a strict vigil on every type of mismanagement, callousness and maladministration," he said. He appreciated the historic liberal funding by the Central Government in the shape of special packages sanctioned for the welfare and development of Jammu and Kashmir. He maintained that there is a need of strict monitoring of all the centrally sponsored schemes and urged the State Government to forward Utilization Certificates to the concerned quarters well in time for uninterrupted release of funds by the Centre Government. He said good governance, transparency and accountability were missing in the state. "The district administration is behaving like a mute spectator rather than coming forward for addressing the grievances of the common masses", he said. He said that many far flung and remote areas of the state have been neglected completely. Vakil expressed shock over LPG and power crisis. "The Central Stores of Power Development Department (PDD) despite making purchases of poles, wires, conductors and transformers in abundance is not allotting the same to its various Electric Divisions thereby making uninterrupted power supply a distant dream in whole State", he lamented. He urged the Government to initiate strict measures to curb black marketing of LPG cylinders which has flourished manifold during the recent past. He added that non-availability of LPG has directly affected the life of common man who has been forced to spend days together to obtain a LPG cylinder. He stressed need for home delivery of cooking gas. Later on a rally of Youth Congress workers headed by Assembly presidents of Sangrama Sheikh Manzoor Ahmad, Rafiabad Altaf Ahmad Malik, Iqbal Mir, Baramulla and Rafiq Wani, Kupwara met Deputy Commissioner Baramulla and submitted him a memorandum seeking eradication of corruption. They also sought employment to unemployed youth.
